What Can A Clinic Do For You?
You CAN turn your dream into reality! At Lantern Lane Farm,
we believe in making your equestrian dreams come true. All of the above
wishes can be made possible and more, by empowering the rider with
proper tools. You will learn skills that:

Raise your body awareness per subject to the point that you can feel whether the movement is incorrect, fairly correct or excellent.
Empower you with the skill to choose when to ride a certain exercise or lateral movement in order to improve the horses overall balance and ability to perform.
Teach you the ability to answer the question "What if" the chosen solution does not work. This involves learning how to troubleshoot horse's resistance.
If you can dream about what you
want, then you can achieve that dream. Dreams are just pictures already
planted in the minds eye. Now you need a plan and tools. So, what can
you do?
Select a clinic subject that is
giving you trouble or one that is a new venture for you, and come to a clinic!
Group Clinics
A clinic is a two, three or four day intensive study session around one
or two subjects. It involves two actual riding lessons per day, one in
the a.m. and one in the p.m. The middle of the day is spent in an
unmounted session using discussion, video tapes and charts to
help you ingest more information about the subject. Lunch will also be
served during this time period. After the p.m. riding session, the
participants are on their own time for rest and relaxation. A small hors
d'oeuvre bar will be served between 5:30 and 6:30 and the participant's
video tapes will be available for viewing. The rest of the evening is
reserved for dinner for the entire group at a local area restaurant. There
will be a summary session on Sunday, thirty minutes after the last
riding session. You will receive your video tape of your riding, and any
hand out materials necessary to complete your clinic. This is a time
when any personal questions can be answered by the instructors regarding
your future training program.
Private or Semi-Private Clinics
A private or semi-private clinic is designed for one
or two riders. The package includes
two riding lessons and one un-mounted lesson per day. The schedule will
be customized
for the riders by our staff. The lessons could all be in the morning,
spread out during the
day or partially in the evening depending on the weather. We will provide unmanned
videotaping and try to make it possible for the riders to view their
tapes while participating in the clinic. Riders will receive the videos
at the end of the clinic but will be responsible for turning them into VHS format.
Lunch will be provided by Lantern Lane Farm. Clinic guests can dine at
one of our area restaurants, or with advanced notice, may dine with us
at the farm for a cost of $20.00 per person. Gratuities are not included
in the price but very much appreciated by our staff if you think they
are
deserving.
Because it is a customized clinic, the subjects can be adjusted to fit whatever the rider really needs while trying to work out old problems, or start on new topics. Whether you do a group clinic or a private/semi-private clinic, one thing is for sure, everyone should go home more enlightened and better trained in the subject matter than when they arrived. Please feel free to ask us detailed questions when you call for information or to make your reservation.
Clinic Goals
Our clinics are centered around a selected subject or concept. The activities are designed to greatly enhance your knowledge on the subject by the time you leave on Sunday. The overall mission of the clinic is that you know:

"What" the subject is (facts)
"Why" it is important (theory)
"How" to perform the subject (aids)
"What if" what you are doing does not work (troubleshooting equine resistances)
Once you have attended a clinic,
you know what the subject is, why it is important to your overall
training program, how to perform this subject, and what to do if it does
not work. Over all, you have a much deeper understanding of the whole
subject. This deeper understanding translates into the ability to be more competent while riding.
Dressage and jumping training does not have to
be a mystical endeavor. Knowledge of the goals and the aids increases
clarity. Clarity increases the ability to communicate with the horse.
Our aids are our tools of communication. Communication increases
willingness, thus achieving better results. The results of proper riding
are physically sound, happier and more athletic horses, or:
Improved gaits
Improved impulsion
Improved submission
Improved rider scores
The above concepts are considered
to be so important that they are given a coefficient of two at the
bottom of dressage tests. No matter what you are asking your sport horse
to do, he will benefit from the improvement of those four concepts.
Itinerary
You
arrive Friday evening giving yourself enough time to settle in before
7:00 orientation for all participants. Food will be served between 6:00
and 7:00 so that all travelers will have a chance to get something to
eat if they have not done so before arriving. Those of you bringing
horses will want to be checked in and horses bedded down by 6:30 if at
all possible. The clinic orientation is very interesting and something
you will surely not want to miss.
Saturday
and Sunday are two full days, plus Saturday evening for those
participants wanting to have dinner with the group. Spouses or traveling
companions are welcome to accompany you to dinner. The cost of dinner is
not included in the cost of the clinic.
The cost of the clinic includes all meals for participants (except Saturday night dinner at a local restaurant), your room, and use of one of our horses if you do not bring a horse, and the video tape of your riding. If you decide to bring a horse for the clinic, we will provide hay, stall cleaning and turn out, and you bring his grain. There will be a charge of $20.00 per day for your equine friend.
You may share a room with another rider if you choose to bring one. However,
all of the rooms are queen or king except one which has twin beds. This
will certainly help defray some of the cost of the clinic.
We hope that you will find your stay at Lantern Lane Farm to be
enlightening as well as relaxing. When not riding, students are
encouraged to relax by the pool in summer or curl up by the woodstove in
winter. Napping in your room, or finding a quiet place to read is highly
recommended as a good way to allow your new information to settle for
further consideration later.
The combination of fun and education makes for an irresistible vacation for those who dream of being better riders.
Pack up your four legged friend and come spend a few days with us or use one of our safe and well trained horses. We look forward to meeting you!
